Maalem Barka has traded livestock in Oman since 1982. We took its first customer app from wireframes to launch, so families across the Sultanate can buy livestock and fresh meat, choose how it's prepared and get it delivered, all from their phone.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Maalem Barka is one of Oman's leading livestock traders, with branches in Barka, Al Amarat and Maabilah. For decades its customers bought in person: visit a branch, pick an animal, agree on slaughter and cutting, then arrange collection. We designed and developed a B2C app for iOS and Android that brings that whole journey online, in English and Arabic, with light and dark modes. Since its 2025 launch the app has grown to more than 1,500 active users and helps the team manage livestock reservations and grow sales across the country.
CHALLENGE
Livestock isn't a typical e-commerce product. Every animal is different in breed and weight, customers want a say in how it's slaughtered and cut, and demand peaks around seasonal occasions such as Eid al-Adha, when reservations were handled by phone. The app had to earn the same trust as a visit to the farm, while staying simple enough for any customer in Oman to order in a few taps.
SOLUTION
We started with wireframes of the in-branch journey and turned each step into a screen: browse by category, see each animal's breed, weight range and rating, choose the quantity and how it's prepared, then pick home delivery or collection from a branch on the map. Orders are tracked until they arrive and rated after delivery, and seasonal livestock can be reserved in advance. We designed the full UI in light and dark mode, then developed and launched the app on the App Store and Google Play, in English and Arabic.

From a 1982 Farm to the App Store
For more than four decades, buying from Maalem Barka meant a trip to the farm. Our job was to bring that same trust to a phone screen without losing what made the business work: hand-picked animals, honest pricing and personal service.

The Product
First Impressions
Three onboarding screens introduce what the brand stands for: trusted farms, easy ordering and premium livestock. Customers sign in with their phone number and a one-time code, or browse as a guest.

Browse & Search
The home screen puts the main categories first: livestock, fresh meat, frozen meat, premium cuts and spices, with offers and best sellers below. Search suggests products as you type.

Choosing an Animal
Every animal shows its breed, weight range, rating and price upfront, the details customers used to ask about at the farm. Before checkout, they decide whether to have the order delivered or pick it up from a branch.

Checkout
Customers choose a saved address or the nearest branch on the map, review the order and pay in the app.

Orders & Tracking
Active orders can be tracked until they arrive, completed orders keep a full history, and customers can rate every product. Notifications confirm each step, from payment to delivery.

Light & Dark Mode
We designed the whole UI in light and dark mode, and the app launched in both English and Arabic.

Launch & Impact
Maalem Barka launched on the App Store and Google Play in 2025. Today it has more than 1,500 active users across Oman, most of them on iPhone. The app helps the team manage livestock reservations, including seasonal peaks around Eid al-Adha, and has grown sales across the country.
